Torres Strait Region

Consultant - Torres Strait Regional Authority – Land and Sea Management Unit (2007-ongoing)
As principal botanist conducted flora survey for vegetation mapping survey over all islands of Torres Strait at 1: 25 000 scale.  

Development of biodiversity management reports across 12 islands in the Torres Strait.  Working closely with Land and Sea Rangers to identify biodiversity values and issues.

Sub Consultant – Arafura Consulting
Pulu Indigenous Protected Area (IPA) Project (Torres Strait, 2008-2009) – Vegetation and ethnobotanical surveys and community consultations with the Goemulgal (Mabuyag people) for compilation of the Plan of Management and declaration of the Pulu IPA.  Relevant TEK was documented and incorporated into the community’s five-year Plan of Management.
 
Waral Kawa Indigenous Protected Area (IPA) Project (Torres Strait, 2011-2012) – Vegetation and ethnobotanical surveys and community consultations for compilation of the Plan of Management for the Waral Kawa IPA.  Relevant TEK was documented and incorporated into the community’s five-year Plan of Management.
 
Warrabagal Indigenous Protected Area (IPA) Project (Torres Strait, 2011-2012) – Vegetation and botanical surveys toward compilation of the Plan of Management and declaration of the IPA in the central island group.

 
Cape York Bioregion Experience

Consultant – RioTinto Alcan Weipa
Deriving Cultural Values project (2012 – current) - A project to document cultural and natural values and significance of the Traditional Owners within the RioTinto Alcan lease, Weipa district, western Cape York Peninsula.  The team worked closely with traditional owners to document traditional ecological knowledge, use and management issues of the lands within the RTA mining lease.  The project involved recording of significant flora and fauna documented in multimedia format.

Greater Lockerbie Scrub Cultural and Biodiversity Values Project (2010) - Managed a Caring for our Country funded project to document cultural and natural values and significance of the Lockerbie Scrub with Gudang Traditional Owners.  The multidisciplinary team worked closely with traditional owners to document traditional knowledge, use and management issues of the Lockerbie Scrub.  The project involved TEK recording of flora and fauna documented in multimedia format.

Technical Officer, Queensland Environment Protection Agency, Far Northern Region, Cairns (1991-1995)
Planned, implemented and reported all aspects of a systematic floristic survey of rainforest vegetation of Cape York Peninsula between 1990-1995 including provision of majority of rainforest site data into Corveg data base and contribution of over 2000 botanical vouchers to Qld Herbarium incorporation a number of undescribed taxa and distribution extension records.

Field survey of vegetation and detailed assessment of conservation values along a 900 km route of the proposed PNG-Gladstone Natural Gas Pipeline between the tip of Cape York and the Palmer River.  Identified sensitive vegetation types, rare and threatened plant species, and natural resource management issues (1996).
